You can take place in the Disaster Risk Reduction photo competition by submitting your photo(s) and information related to the context in which the photo was taken (max. 5 per contestant).
To present your photos at the Online Photo Exhibition around October 13, 2016 to commemorate International Day for Disaster Reduction, please send your photos before September 15, 2016.
To present your photos at the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction for the Americas in 2017, please send your photos before December 31, 2016.
These finalists will be posted on the UNISDR and DIPECHO LAC websites. A winner photo of the competition will be selected and invited to the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction for the Americas in order to present the photo and related story. A media interview will be arranged that will allow its dissemination at the regional and global level.

Following requirements
1. Photos can be submitted on behalf of an organization or an individual.
2. Photographs can be submitted in color, black and white or sepia.
3. Photographs shall not have won prizes in other competitions.
4. Each participant may submit a maximum of 5 (five) photos.
5. Photos may have been taken at any time.
6. Photographs can be unpublished or already published (*)(**). (*) If your photo has already been published, you must have a copy of the publication and the approval of the supervisor. (**) If your photo becomes published after its submittal, please keep us informed of the respective details.
7. Photographs have to be submitted in their original form and shall not be digitally modified through computer programs with special effects or artistic filters such as watercolor, paintbrush, etc.
8. It is not permitted to add, remove, or superimpose elements to the original image; this will cause automatic disqualification.
9. Adjustments to the size (cropping), contrasts, shades or colors (for example, changed to sepia / black and white) are allowed.
10. In the case that the photo clearly shows the face of a person in the foreground, it is essential to include written permission or consent duly signed by the person photographed agreeing that the photo may be published.
In the case a child appears in the foreground of the photo (his/her face can be clearly identified), the consent form must be signed by the child's parent or legal guardian. The photo will be disqualified in the absence of such written consent.
11. If the photo contains several people (adults or children), if faces cannot be seen clearly, or if it has been published previously, no permission or consent is needed. Download Photo consent form
12. Photos must be sent in .JPG format and must have a minimum size of ( 46.5 x 31cm - 18.3" x 12.2" inches with 300 pixels per inch).
Terms of use
By participating in the photo competition, all photos will form part of a global photo bank for possible use in publications, for advertising and resource mobilization or any other purpose other than commercial purposes while respecting the credit of the photographer.
By participating in the photo competition, all participants yield the rights and permissions for use, reproduction and dissemination of the photos to ECHO and UNISDR for use in audiovisual, print and electronic media as well as television, at the global level and in all countries of the world, as well as use by ECHO and UNISDR in public or private exhibitions nationally or internationally, for an unlimited time.
The photographer ensures ECHO and UNISDR that he / she has the necessary permission of the person that appears in the photo, and understands international policies on child protection. Photographs that do not respect the rights or dignity of children will be disqualified immediately (for example: images of children with alcohol, naked or semi-naked).
Photos submitted through this contest will be used respecting the identity and integrity of the photographer by including the respective credits each time the photo is used.
Photographs will not be returned.
